About Us

Michael and Melissa (Missy) Ayers met at Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina, in 1990.  Missy was working on an undergraduate degree in biology and Michael was working on a Master's degree in biology.  Both graduated and they moved to the triad region of North Carolina.  For over 20 years, Michael taught biology in North Carolina Community Colleges and Missy worked for a major university in an animal behavior laboratory.  Eventually, Missy started managing a primate breeding facility where she practiced her animal husbandry and clinical skills.  Michael earned a doctorate and finished his 31 year career as a community college dean then vice president.

Now, Michael and Missy are both semi-retired.  They moved closer to the beach where they enjoy spending time on and near the ocean.  Michael returned to teaching college biology classes part-time and Missy works as a pharmacy technician.  With their extra time from semi-retirement, they enjoy raising Savannah cats and placing kittens in homes where they will be loved for many years to come.  Their comprehensive understanding of biology and Missy's clinical experience give them a strong foundation, which helps them maintain a high quality cattery.

In January of 2024, Carolina Savannah Cats merged with King Savannahs.  See the press release here.
